What happens to the images you upload
When you add a picture to a board, moodboard or library, we re-encode it and store a high-quality version of it. We do not keep your camera original, so keep your own masters.
That is worth saying plainly, because it is the one thing people assume works the other way.
What we keep
A single high-quality copy, up to 3200 pixels on its longest side, plus the smaller sizes the app shows on screen. For almost every picture that is more detail than any board, client link or PDF will ever use, and it is what your exports are made from.
If your picture is already smaller than that, it is left at its own size. Nothing is ever stretched up.
What that means in practice
- Prints and PDFs are unaffected. Exports have always been built from the display copy, not the original file.
- Very large camera files get smaller. A 20-megapixel photograph might arrive as 15MB and be stored as under 1MB, with no visible difference on screen or in a PDF.
- Animations still move. A GIF keeps its animation.
- Colour is left exactly as you gave it. We do not convert or reinterpret colour profiles.
Keep your own masters
Your camera roll, your card backups, your graded stills: keep them, as you would with any production tool. Storybrdr is where the board lives, not where your archive lives.
