Running the day
The day is today's shots in the order you plan to shoot them, grouped by setup. Shot is one of them, full width, with the approved frame at the top and everything the board already knows about it underneath: shot size, angle, movement, lens, duration, frame rate, priority, time of day, description and dialogue.
The three answers
Three big buttons, and the words are the ones a set actually uses:
- In the can, moving on
- Partial, more needed
- Dropped, not shooting it
Tapping the one a shot already has returns it to To shoot, so a mis-tap costs nothing. There is no fourth button: Shooting now appears by itself the moment you log the first take, because that is what shooting now means.
The day's progress bar is counted from those taps. Nobody types a percentage.
Filters
Three chips narrow the list: everything, what is still to shoot, or just the pickups. Where a project has more than one board, you can also hold the day to a single board, which is what you want on a job shooting a hero film and a vertical cutdown on the same day.
Shots that were not on the board
Add a shot on the day and it is marked as having been added on set. That mark survives into the wrap and the editor's handover, so the edit can tell the footage that was planned from the footage that was found.
Moving between shots
Swipe sideways on a phone. On a laptop, with a shot open, the arrow keys move between shots, T logs a take and C circles the last one. The frame already fills the space it has, so there is no separate full-screen view.
No signal
Statuses, takes, notes and pickup reasons are applied on the device the moment you tap them, then queued and sent when the connection returns. A dead spot does not stop you working and does not lose the taps.
Two limits worth knowing before you are somewhere without a signal:
- A continuity photograph does not retry by itself. If it cannot get out it turns red, and a tap on it tries again. It does not survive the tab being closed, so keep the page open until it has gone.
- The day is not downloaded in advance. A phone that has never opened the board and has no signal has nothing to show. Open the day once while you still have a bar or two, before you leave the unit base.
